Abstract

The Historical Center in Old Havana holds its own management model, which conditions a favorable scenario to develop creative economies. This research aims at analyzing the imbalances in the development processes of creative industries of the non-state sector in this territory. We selected two of its popular councils, with substantial socioeconomic differences, and took a representative sample of 150 private sector enterprises in order to identify those associated with the creative economy. In addition, we identified the potentialities and barriers presented by these two areas for the development of private creative economies, and elaborated possible lines of action to develop in these territories. Regardless of being an area with an excellent artistic development, there are few selfemployed businesses that can be classified as creative economies, as there is a large number of repetitive proposals, without differentiated cultural values, and with a marked lack of culture on the subject. The results confirm that the popular councils under study show differences when disseminating these industries, so we analyzed the importance of outlining policies that contribute to the fair development of these economies throughout the Historic Center in Old Havana.
