About the Journal

1.Journal background 

Revista Ean was established in 1986, as an institutional initiative aimed at disseminating the  knowledge generated by the scientific work of its professors and researchers. Since then, the  publication has gone through several stages of transformation which have involved, among  other aspects: the definition of social sciences as its main academic field and economics and  business as specific thematic areas; the expansion of its scope to include contributions from  professors and researchers from different institutions; as well as its incorporation into the  digital publishing environment. The journal has been published continuously since 1986,  currently biannual publication schedule.  

The journal is currently indexed in DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), SciELO (Scientific  Electronic Library Online), Redalyc (Red de revistas científicas de América Latina y el Caribe),  REDIB (Red Iberoamericana de innovación y conocimiento científico), EBSCOhost, EconLit, and  in the national index Publindex of Minciencias in the B category.

2.Scope  

Revista Ean is a scientific and academic publication, issue biannually by Universidad Ean. Its  main objective is to publish research papers that align with the interests of both the academic  and business sectors, and contribute to debates within the field of social sciences, specifically  in economics and business. 

Its target audience includes professionals, academics, researchers, and students who are  looking for updated content related to the thematic areas covered by the publication.

3. Contributions 

Revista Ean preferably publishes research results in the area of economics and business,  particularly in administration, management and entrepreneurship, written in Spanish or  English. 

Manuscripts must be original, report final research results, .and must not have been previously  published or be under consideration for publication, submission, or evaluation elsewhere. Authors are responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy. Contributions submitted to  the journal may be classified in the following categories: 

Research article: Document that evidences original results of a completed research project.  Its structure usually includes four main sections: introduction, methodology, results and  conclusions.  

Literature review article: Document resulting from completed research where the results  of previous research, published or unpublished, on a specific field are analyzed,  systematized and integrated, with the purpose of showing advances and trends in that field.  It is characterized by a careful bibliographic review that includes at least 50 references. 

Case study: Document presenting the results of an in-depth analysis of a specific situation,  to show the technical and methodological experiences applied in a specific case. It should  also contain a review of literature related to similar cases. 

Revista Ean publishes its issues twice a year (approximately twenty articles per year), and  includes the following sections, to which the editorial committee assigns manuscripts based on  their content: 

  • Research articles 
  • Literature review article 
  • Case studies 

4. Language of manuscripts 

Revista Ean promotes the submission of manuscripts in English, especially those research  results with regional or international projection, aims to enhance the dissemination of scientific  knowledge in international academic scenarios and facilitating their inclusion in indexes,  catalogs, systems and high impact citation databases.  

However, the journal recognizes the importance of linguistic diversity in academic production,  therefore, manuscripts will continue to be received in Spanish. In these cases, the title, abstract  and keywords must also be presented in English, in order to guarantee their visibility in  English-speaking academic and scientific communities. For this reason, the use of automatic  translators is not allowed, given the low quality they generally offer.  

The editorial team will review the linguistic level and style of the text, and may request  adjustments, if necessary, as well as offer suggestions for translation and style correction in  English, with the purpose of supporting the authors in the process of preparing their  manuscripts, ensuring the quality criteria required by the journal.

8.Open Access Policy 

Revista Ean is an Open Access scientific journal, whose contents are immediately and freely  available online upon publication. All manuscripts are subjected to a rigorous peer review and  it is ensured that once the correction and editing process is completed, they are published as  soon as possible. In this sense, the journal applies the creative commons Attribution 

NonCommercial-NoDerivs CC-BY-NC-ND license.  

Additionally, the journal allows authors to self-archive the final published version in PDF.

9. Digital Archiving Policy 

Universidad Ean, as part of its digital preservation efforts, uses LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep  Stuff Safe) to ensure and maintain the permanent archiving of the journals hosted on the Open  Journal Systems platform.

10. Ethical responsibilities

Authors must sign the form Autorización de publicación de artículos de revista a favor de la  Universidad Ean, declaring their responsibility of authorship and originality of the article  (taking into account decision 351 of the CAN, Law 23 of 1982, Intellectual Property regulations  of Universidad Ean, and other applicable regulations), as well as the ethical responsibilities  acquired and, if necessary, a declaration of conflict of interest. Therefore:  

Previously published material is not accepted, likewise, authors are responsible for obtaining  the necessary permissions to partially use information (text, graphic elements, among others)  from other publications and citing the source correctly. In other words, the authors accept  responsibility for the approaches and information presented. 

Authors must guarantee that those who appear as signatories in their articles are people who  have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution in the conceptualization and  planning of the manuscript as well as in the analysis, interpretation of the results, writing and  revision of the same. Revista Ean is not responsible for possible conflicts related to the  authorship of the published articles. 

In any case, the journal's scientific and editorial committee understands and states that the  opinions expressed by the authors are their sole responsibility.

11. Publication Schedule

Revista Ean is a biannual publication that releases its issues as follows: 

  • January to June 
  • July to December

12. Plagiarism and self-plagiarism 

Plagiarism is defined as the total or partial use of ideas, words, data or material generated by  third parties without their authorization. This may occur in various forms, such as texts,  illustrations, music, computer programs, material downloaded from websites, other documents  or digital media, including unpublished or unpublished material such as courses, presentations  and gray literature. The above is understood as intellectual misappropriation. 

Self-plagiarism refers to the reuse of one’s own previously published work without clearly  indicating, first, that it has already been published, and second, that the content is the author’s  own. This practice is considered inappropriate and is rejected in the context of scientific writing  from any ethical standpoint. 

Revista Ean only publishes and encourages original and innovative works. Therefore, it does  not accept percentages of plagiarism in its manuscripts, conducts a rigorous review the  submissions sent through the scientific journals web portal platform by specialized software  for the verification of plagiarism and self-plagiarism in their articles. In this case, the respective  notification of rejection will be made, clearly stating the reason for the decision. 

Reviewers, authors or the scientific community may raise suspicions of plagiarism that will be  analyzed by the editorial committee, following COPE's correction guidelines and retraction.

Any manuscript resulting from a graduate work, master's thesis or similar, must be presented  reworked and edited. When citing compiled information or reusing figures and elements from  these documents in the manuscript, authors should avoid self-plagiarism by properly citing the  adapted content. If a thesis has been published by a publisher and is publicly available,  permission from the publisher may be required to submit it to the journal. This must be notified  to the editorial committee through the "Comments to the Editor" section the scientific journals  web portal platform or by sending a communication to the following email address revistaean@universidadean.edu.co

13. Artificial Intelligence (AI) 

Authors must explicitly disclose the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of  their manuscripts, either in the development of the text or in the creation of images. This  statement must include a clear explanation of how these tools were used (e.g., as  complementary research tools, to simplify and streamline operational tasks, among others).  This process is essential to comply with the principles of integrity and transparency established  by the COPE and journal’s Ethic Code.  

In no case should the AI tools appear as authors or co-authors, nor as part of the bibliographic  references, since they do not have moral or patrimonial rights over the different works  generated, nor can they assume responsibilities related to their content. Any mention of AI  should appear in the methodology section. 

In addition, authors must ensure that such elements generated with AI do not affect the  integrity of individuals or society, as established in the journal’s Ethic Code. 

Therefore, such statement must include: 

  • Name and version of the model being used. 
  • The company that created the model. 
  • The prompt or instruction that generated the response. 
  • The date on which the content was generated.

In cases where content generated with this type of tools is used, a "significant contribution"  by the authors must be evidenced, which makes it possible to distinguish between human  intellectual work and that created by AI. To this end, the statement must indicate the following:  

Reviewed with AI: When these tools have been used for activities such as content review,  copy editing or citation checking. 

Written with AI: When the tool has assisted in the writing, but not in the partial or total  development of the content. 

Corrected with AI: The tools have been used to correct errors or improve content.  Translated with AI: The tools have been used for content translations.  

Developed by AI: These tools were used directly to configure the development of a  product's content. 

AI Qualified: The tools have been used to support the evaluation activities of a product.
