Abstract

In agriculture, ornamental flowers are normally grown in outdoor nurseries. The increase in demand for Colombian ornamental flowers has been significant since 2016, however, there is an information gap concerning waste management processes generated by nurseries for production. This research was conducted in order to obtain this information and include it in an environmental geographic viewer in the production sector of live and ornamental plants whose scope includes the city of Bogotá D.C. and the municipalities of Fusagasugá, Mosquera, Soacha, Sibaté, and Funza. The methodology comprised three phases: the preliminary phase, which gathered information from studies conducted by Asocolflores and Colviveros; the experimental phase, where we carried out a bibliographic consultation on existing nurseries in the area under study, in order to develop the geographic viewer in the ArcGIS Online program based on data obtained from surveys and field visits; and the evaluation and analysis phase, where the data obtained were interpreted, fundamental for the final document to show the environmental geographic viewer, allowing the control and organization of the nurseries data, as well as the knowledge of their environmental problems and their solid, liquid, and vegetable waste disposal processes, the latter being of great environmental and economic interest for small companies that use techniques for their reuse.
