Vibratory Model of a Power Transmission System for Fault Detection and Characterization
Abstract
The vibratory behavior of a power transmission system allows for characterizing the signals to detect possible faults in the system components. This predictive maintenance strategy estimates the helpful life of rotating systems, reducing maintenance time and costs. This characterization is carried out considering models of different degrees of freedom of rotodynamic systems, in which it is possible to simulate common failures in transmission systems (wear, breakage, overload). Considering the above, this work models a two-stage power transmission system: the first with helical gears, and the second with hypoid gears, using the Jeffcott model as a base. Besides, the coupling of the transmission shafts through the gears is implemented, where the faults' behavior is also simulated. The execution of the model and obtaining results is carried out using the MATLAB® software. Thus, it was possible to complete a mathematical model with multiple degrees of freedom that allows evaluating the behavior of the system's dynamics in stages and, finally, coupling each of them into a complete system. For this, several factors were considered to achieve similarities concerning reality. The specifications of some materials (review of catalogs, among others) allowed us to assume values that adequately represented all the parts of the system and, in this way, be able to simulate the stages of project development.
