To what extent being a shopkeeper is considered a dignified job?
Abstract
This research began with the idea of characterizing one of the most common and proliferating jobs in the city of Bogotá, especially in certain locations: that of a shopkeeper.
For this purpose, a series of surveys were performed and an analysis of the collected data was complied, with the purpose of evaluating the different behavior patterns that are developed by the shopkeepers and their employees as they carry out their activities, and in this way determine how worthy the job of a shopkeeper can be considered.
For this, two fundamental factors were reviewed: a) the time that is dedicated to the work, and b) the revenues that are generated by the stores. It was finally found that there is work overload of the shopkeepers, who in addition to devoting more than 12 hours a day to their work, do not take annual vacations, which is linked to the second factor, since the income that is generated by the stores barely covers the expenses of the home and the business premises, leaving a margin of no money for other type of investments.
