Researching, writing, and publishing. How important is it to the university? Case Study until 2018
Abstract
This article is the result of one year of working as an editorial assistant for a Colombian scientific journal. It raises a critical reflection on the measurement model generated and used until 2018 by the different editorials, using the indicators established by Colciencias -today Minciencias-, in order to classify and categorize the investigations, where the noble art of research has been distorted, jumping from being an activity of progress and advancement aimed at improving the quality of knowledge, to becoming a bank of knowledge by quantity and competitiveness. The text presents a critical sketch of the roles of the university and science in relation to research, and the impact that the implementation of measurements brings to the writers and researchers; as well as the limitations and shortcomings in the mechanism used by standardized measurement indicators for the classification of "quality" research. Finally, the document identifies the components that must be included in a scientific article so that it is publishable, and indicates the steps to choose the scientific magazine that guarantees the publication of the article, as well as the measurements to which both the magazines and the scientific articles are subject to.
