On the importance of associativity to promote the visibility and legitimization of the executive production of the performing arts and other professions in the sector
Abstract
This article aims to introduce the associative experience of the Professional Association of Executive Producers of Performing Arts (APPEAE) and present some of the topics addressed by the association between 2020 and 2021, in the midst of the pandemic context. The methodology of this text is based on three pillars: the documentary review of experiences from colleagues and third parties linked to the performing arts; the direct observation of the author of this article as President of APPEAE; and finally, the study for the preliminary dossier commissioned by the Board of Directors of the Association to the same author, developed during August and September 2020. The contents include a retrospective analysis of the state of performing arts at the time the covid-19 emergency was declared in Argentina; it raises the issue of lack of identification and visibility by the State of the various existing scenic professions, and finally, it shares the preliminary dossier of APPEAE presented to the Argentine Ministry of Culture. The final reflections provide a vision of a model of associativity among professionals in the executive production of performing arts, which, being a pioneer in Ibero-America, can serve as an example for other organizations in the sector to emulate, contributing to the visibility and legitimization of certain professions within and outside the Ibero-American scenic field. It leaves the door open and, at the same time, hopeful for future associative collaborations among public, private, and third-sector actors.
