Bilingualism in Colombia: economy and society
Abstract
Rev. Ploutos
This article analyzes the current situation of bilingualism in Colombia. Our research is based on the method of analysis from indicators and results obtained by the Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education (ICFES by its abbreviation in Spanish) with the support of the Banco de la República, both certified entities. In 2004, the Education Ministry designed the National Bilingual Program (NBP) and stipulated the guidelines and objectives for its development throughout the country. This study differentially explored the literature with inputs from the group to the central analysis of related hypotheses. Therefore, throughout this article we aim to demonstrate that most of the deficit in the English level of students in secondary and higher education is produced by the insufficient level of English teachers.
