Abstract

With the purpose of qualifying the teaching practice in higher education for virtual modality, the research project called RutaTIC included the creation of a route of appropriation of new technologies. The project offered three diploma courses, two in 2019 and one that is currently active. Each diploma course is focused on one area of knowledge: engineering, health, and education, and comprises several game elements that were consciously integrated towards making the contents of the route more dynamic and motivating the development of the activities. In furtherance of deepening in this field, the study clarifies important concepts, such as "game elements", "serious game", and "gamification" or "ludification"; after that, it shows the levels of integration of game elements that were applied to the route and the reasons to include them, followed by some results. Finally, we present some conclusions regarding this experience, suggesting to recognize and adopt the activities that compose the route in order to dynamize other projects where students' participation wants to be strengthened, greater commitment and independence in their training to be achieved, and dropout rates to be decreased. In addition, it is important to highlight that the resources for this project have been prepared in a free manner for the general public, and are both packaged for integral use and segmented for use in spaces where it is required.
